TWO men accused of fatally assaulting a Bulawayo businessman during a robbery have appeared in court facing murder charges.
Kelvin Ndavambi (24) and Johannes Dlamini (29) appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mr Themba Chimiso, who remanded them in custody to May 22 pending trial at the High Court.
The pair was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Ms Josephine Gurazhira told the court that on May 9, shortly after 9PM, the accused allegedly stormed the home of Noor Hussein in Khumalo suburb, Bulawayo.
“They scaled over the precast wall and entered the yard before proceeding to the main house, where they found Hussein asleep in the living room,” said Ms Gurazhira.
The court heard that the two allegedly woke Hussein up and demanded money, but he told them he did not have any.
It is alleged that the accused then took turns assaulting him with a plank while threatening to shoot him.
The deceased’s child screamed for help, alerting neighbours and forcing the accused persons to flee from the scene.
Hussein sustained severe injuries and bled profusely before being rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to the injuries.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects.
The case comes amid growing concern over violent crimes in Bulawayo and follows another murder case currently before the courts involving Ritha Siampepu, a Makokoba woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband during a domestic dispute.
