NINE Public Service Commission buses have been handed over by the Government to Mashonaland Central and Matabeleland North provinces as part of efforts to ease transport challenges facing civil servants and improve service delivery.
Mashonaland Central received four buses, while Matabeleland North received five, with the latter earmarked for Tsholotsho, Bubi, Umguza, Lupane and Nkayi districts.
The nine buses form part of a fleet of 55 PSC buses commissioned nationally by Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi in Mutare on September 2.
The fleet is expected to improve the transportation of public servants, particularly those facing challenges commuting to and from work, while enhancing punctuality, attendance, morale and service delivery.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Bindura yesterday, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo said the provision of the buses demonstrated the Government’s commitment to improving the working conditions of civil servants.
He said reliable and affordable transport would help address challenges faced by public sector workers while improving punctuality, attendance and morale.
The Minister added that civil servants remained central to the attainment of Vision 2030 and that the Government, under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, had introduced various measures to improve their welfare.
Minister Magomo described the buses as part of the Government’s non-monetary incentives aimed at supporting and motivating its workforce.
“I urge all stakeholders to safeguard and properly maintain these buses. The buses must be properly operated, used only for their intended purpose and managed in accordance with Government regulations,” he said.
The Minister said responsible management of the fleet would ensure that the buses continued to benefit public sector workers for years to come. In Matabeleland North, the five buses were handed over to the province during a ceremony held at the Elangeni Training Centre in Bulawayo yesterday.
Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo said the buses would improve efficiency, productivity and service delivery, particularly for civil servants serving in the districts.
“These buses, which will be allocated to Tsholotsho, Bubi, Umguza, Lupane and Nkayi districts, are a clear demonstration of the Government’s continued commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of public servants, particularly those serving in our districts,” he said.
“The provision of these buses will assist in addressing transportation challenges and contribute towards improved efficiency, productivity and service delivery.”
Minister Moyo also called on the relevant authorities to ensure that the buses were properly managed, maintained and used for their intended purpose for the benefit of public servants.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of Matabeleland North Province, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for this generous gesture and his continued commitment to the welfare of public servants,” he said.
Earlier this year, the Government approved the procurement of 128 buses as part of measures to address transport challenges affecting its workforce.
So far, 55 buses have been procured and are being deployed nationwide.
Vice President Mohadi commissioned the buses on the sidelines of the PSC Retirement Conference 2026 in Mutare.
The dedicated transport is expected to ease the daily commuting burden on civil servants while supporting the Government’s broader drive to improve efficiency, productivity and public service delivery.
