GOKWE, June 17 (NewsDay Live) – A 44-year-old man from Chief Mkoka’s area in Gokwe has been slapped with an effective 15-year jail sentence for raping a 15-year-old girl from his neighbourhood.
The Gokwe Regional Court heard that the offence was committed on May 25 this year after the perpetrator intercepted the teenager along a footpath and dragged her into the bush.
He was interrupted by the victim’s brother, who witnessed the incident and raised alarm. The matter was reported to police, leading to the rapist’s arrest.
The magistrate said the lengthy custodial sentence should serve as a warning to would-be offenders. Race carries a mandatory.
