A LEADERSHIP culture that is grounded in integrity and designed for the good of society should be embraced by all, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Delivering a keynote address at the St Joseph Guild Weekend of Prayer at St Paul’s Musami Mission in Murewa yesterday, the Vice President said the gathering was a call to spiritual renewal, collective reflection and moral recommitment for the country.
He also reminded Zimbabweans of the importance of prayer in guiding individual lives and strengthening communities.
This year’s theme, “Refocusing our pathways with St Joseph in the Jubilee Year of St Francis”, said the VP, was critically important as it should push believers to rise above individualism.
He cited the life of St Joseph as a model of leadership — quiet, principled and steadfast.
He also drew lessons from St Francis of Assisi, saying the saint’s mission reflected humility, simplicity, peacebuilding and compassion towards the vulnerable.
By emulating St Joseph and St Francis, VP Chiwenga said leaders could build a balanced and values-driven citizenhood framework, one that is both disciplined in character and active in service.
“This occasion, grounded in devotion and reflection, provides a valuable platform for spiritual renewal and collective introspection. It challenges us to rise above individualism and cultivate strong bonds of brotherhood, anchored in shared values and a common destiny,” said VP Chiwenga.
“Refocusing our pathways is not merely a personal or spiritual undertaking. It extends to our families, our communities and the nation as a whole. It compels us to critically reflect on our lives, to realign our priorities with God’s will and to recommit ourselves to values that uphold both the Church and society. In St Joseph, we encounter a model of quiet but decisive leadership defined by integrity, diligence, stewardship and unwavering trust in divine direction. This demonstrates that transformative impact can be delivered through faithful execution of everyday responsibilities. Equally, St Francis of Assisi exemplifies a bold, mission-driven paradigm marked by humility, radical simplicity, peacebuilding and compassionate outreach to the most vulnerable.”
He said these virtues reinforce the imperative of visible and values-based engagement in society.
Taken together, VP Chiwenga added, these two models establish a balanced leadership framework and continue to inform the conduct of leaders, citizens and faithful believers.
“It is within such gatherings that critical teachings are shared, contemporary issues are addressed and the faithful are equipped to fulfil their mission in an ever-evolving world,” he said.
“This gathering is expected to inspire personal transformation, reinforce our commitment to faith and service and equip members with the spiritual resilience required to navigate life’s challenges.
“As we reflect on the life and virtues of St Joseph, we are called upon to emulate his example in our daily responsibilities: as fathers, husbands and leaders.
“In doing so, we contribute meaningfully to society through acts of service, charity and active participation within our respective deaneries and communities.”
He encouraged the guild, Church and all Zimbabweans to remain steadfast in prayer for the country, seeking peace, stability and inclusive prosperity.
He also implored for prayers for wisdom in leadership, diligence in service and humility in daily engagement.
