Newly appointed Public Service Commissioner Jessie Majome has declined to comment on her transfer from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, saying she is “exercising my right to be silent” on the matter.

Majome previously served as chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission before being moved to the Public Service Commission in a reshuffle by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Speaking to ZiFM Stereo News, Majome gave a brief response when asked about her new role and the circumstances surrounding her redeployment.

“On this one, I will exercise my right to be silent,” she said.

Her transfer has triggered public debate, with some commentators describing the move as a possible demotion, while others argue it is a routine administrative redeployment within government structures.

While speculation continues over the reasons behind the shift, legal experts maintain that there is nothing irregular about the appointment, noting that such movements fall within the President’s constitutional prerogative to assign senior officials to different commissions.

The development has nevertheless drawn attention due to Majome’s high-profile role in the human rights sector prior to her reassignment.
