THE Sanganai/Hlanganani  World Tourism Expo offers lucrative opportunities for participating hospitality industry players and businesses owned by women and youth in tourism to interact with global tourism players.

The event which is organised to market the country’s tourism products has been running for the past 11 years and is a must attend for serious hospitality sector players, especially women and youths who will enjoy a 50 percent discount for exhibition stands.

Running from September 12 to 14 in the City of Kings and Queens, the discount is expected to boost youths and women’s morale as well as encourage them to take part at the travel showcase where Zimbabwe will showcase itself to a large group of international and local delegates.

“Women and the youth are the backbone of our society and as the tourism industry we appreciate the role they play in anchoring tourism growth and development,” ZTA interim chief executive officer Rita Likukuma said.

Likukuma added that she is hopeful that the expo will have a lasting impression on people in Bulawayo and boost economic activities in the city.

Most of Bulawayo industries collapsed during the hyper-inflation era in 2008 and the city has been struggling to resuscitate them, hence the stance buy ZTA to empower the Bulawayo local organising committee to run the expo.

With the minimum attention been given to unequal ways in which benefits of tourism are dispersed between men and women, ZTA has encouraged women and youths to participate at such events providing them with a chance to be entrepreneurs and employers.
“Tourism is an economic pillar that has proven to provide livelihoods.
“As the national tourism organisation, we have found a way to contribute to addressing the problem of unemployment of women and youth,” Likukuma said.

With almost a month to go before Zimbabwe’s premier tourism showcase, Sanganai/ Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has given a lifeline to women and youth in tourism.

“The three-day showcase will allow both international and local exhibitors and buyers to meet, network and do business with a fairly large representation of Africa’s travel and tourism trade,” she added.

Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo was created to facilitate business to business meetings all under one roof without incurring huge costs on travel to meet tour operators and wholesalers in the source markets.

THE HOST COUNTRY
Zimbabwe: A World of
Wonders

Zimbabwe is a wonderful, friendly and welcoming destination, situated on a high plateau in southern Africa and lies between the Zambezi and the Limpopo rivers.

Such as its wonderful people and culture, rich history and heritage, the Great Zimbabwe — the grand medieval palace, the majestic Victoria Falls — Mosi-oa-Tunya, pristine wildlife and nature, the mystique of the Eastern Highlands and the mythical Lake Kariba and the mighty Zambezi.

It is a landlocked country, bordered by Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and Botswana. The climate is generally warm, with a daily sunshine average of seven hours all year round. Zimbabwe is a plural society where people of different races live in harmony.
Zimbabweans living in urban areas have a westernised lifestyle, while in the country areas many African traditions have been preserved.

THE HOST CITY
Bulawayo – The City of Kings

Bulawayo — candidly known as the “City of Kings” — is the host city for the 2017 Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.
The city is rich in culture and history and is a must visit for anyone touring Zimbabwe. Bulawayo was the home of King Lobengula.
It is located within easy reach of Hwange National Park, The Victoria Falls (one of the wonders of the world), The Matobo Hills where Cecil John Rhodes and King Mzilikazi are buried. Also situated near Bulawayo are the two Unesco World Heritage Sites of Matobo National Park and the Khame Ruins.
