Two Guernsey Gold Mine employees from Goromonzi, who were buried alive when a tunnel they were working in collapsed, have been rescued, bringing to an end the rescue mission that was being carried by the Government, mining companies and the Goromonzi community.
First to be rescued was Pardon Ruvengo (23), who was brought out of the tunnel alive. Later, the team retrieved the body of his colleague, Innocent Mhere (21).
The two were trapped last week on Friday, with rescue operations commencing immediately.
Though rescue operations commenced immediately after the accident, unforeseen challenges delayed to retrieve the trapped workers.
