VICE President Dr Kembo Mohadi has called for a shift from perpetual political contest to developmental dialogue that delivers tangible results to the nation, especially as public discourse becomes increasingly driven by “unprogressive noise” on social media.

The Vice President said politics could not be only about contest, but about mobilising ideas, consolidating progress and delivering tangible outcomes for the people.

VP Mohadi made the remarks at the launch of two books written by author and political commentator Lungani Zwangobani, where he was the guest of honour. The books are titled; Why Zanu PF Must Succeed: Golden Jubilee Reflections and A Daring in November.

“Distinguished guests, the book ‘Why Zanu PF Must Succeed’ speaks boldly and directly to this imperative,” he said.

“As we approach the Golden Jubilee of our independence, it is important to reflect on the role of Zanu PF, not merely as a political party, but as a liberation movement that carries not only the historic mandate of safeguarding the sovereignty of Zimbabwe, but is the sole entity capable of advancing a dignified and prosperous nation.”

Vice President Mohadi said Zimbabwe’s attainment of independence was not accidental, but was fought for. Independence was not paid for and had to be defended and guarded jealously.

“ZANU PF, as the custodian of that liberation legacy, carries a responsibility that goes beyond electoral cycles,” he said.

“It is a responsibility to ensure that sovereignty is translated into economic independence, social justice, and national development.”

Vice President Mohadi said Zwangobani’s two books correctly capture the ongoing transformation of the ruling party.

He said the Second Republic had seen this transformation from a liberation movement rooted in the struggle into a modern, developmental political institution aligned with national aspirations as envisioned in Vision 2030.

VP Mohadi said that under the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa, a deliberate shift towards a development-focused governance model, one that prioritises infrastructure, industrialisation, innovation, and inclusive growth, has been witnessed.

The transition was strategic and had to be understood, embraced and supported by all members of the ruling party and the nation at large.

“It is literature such as this that advances the progressive discourse that our people must be engaged in,” the Vice President said.

VP Mohadi said Zwangobani’s writings reminded all that national development was not solely the responsibility of the Government but a shared obligation. Each citizen had to take ownership of their circumstances, contribution and role in building Zimbabwe.

“There is no substitute for individual responsibility within a collective national vision,” he said.

The two books offered a balanced intellectual contribution that strengthened both ideological clarity and personal accountability. VP Mohadi encouraged the nation to recommit to the ideals that brought Zimbabwe’s independence: sovereignty, unity, development and responsibility.

“Let us deepen our engagement in ideas,” he said. “Let us build conscious citizens, and let us ensure that our discourse, as a nation, is anchored in progress.”

The book launch was attended by senior Government officials, including Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs Charles Tawengwa; Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Professor Paul Mavima; ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Tino Machakaire; Permanent Secretary in Vice President Mohadi’s Office Dr Benson Martins Dube; and other Government officials.
